Bosch Packaging Technology has entered an agreement to acquire Eisai Co., Ltd.’s machinery business, which specializes in inspection machinery for the pharmaceutical industry. The company generated sales of approximately $103 million in 2010 and has 120 associates worldwide with locations and service centers in Japan, Germany, North America, and China. Financial details were not disclosed. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
Eisai’s inspection technology is used for liquid pharmaceuticals such as ampoules, pre-filled syringes, infusion bottles or vials, as well as for the production of solid pharmaceuticals such as tablets. The Eisai machinery companies also sell packaging materials for pharma products, as well as pharma packaging machines from various manufacturers.
"Eisai and Bosch have been cooperating for years. We have formed a close partnership with Eisai Co., both with its pharmaceutical business and its subsidiary Eisai Machinery Co., Ltd., which markets Bosch machines in Japan,” said Friedbert Klefenz, president of Bosch Packaging Technology. “In the future, Bosch will be able to offer a broader product portfolio in the area of inspection technology, from basic inspection solutions to fully automated high-performance systems for all commonly used applications on the market.”
