Catalent Pharma Solutions has added the Xcelodose micro-dosing system to its Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC facility. This system is designed to provide high-precision metering of powder active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) into capsules, which, according to the company, eliminates the need for upfront formulation activities and minimizes the amount of actives required to manufacture the clinical batch.

According to the company, Precision powder micro-dosing provides the following benefits: accurate and reproducible dosing down to as little as 100 micrograms of powder; capability of producing small batches less than 100 capsules; simplified formulation efforts and reduced drug development timeline; high quality clinical supplies; and lower development costs.
