Pfizer Opens €300M State-of-the-Art Facility in Freiburg, Germany

Doubles drug production capacity that is capable of producing up to 7 billion additional solid dosage forms.

Pfizer CentreOne opened its state-of-the-art facility in Freiburg, Germany, built in partnership with Bristol-Myers Squibb, to offer greater drug manufacturing support to European partners.
 
The €300 million investment into the existing Freiburg site has created a center for the efficient, reliable production and packaging of innovative medicines for the global market. At 13,500m2, the new facility is capable of producing up to 7 billion additional solid dosage forms. Overall, the new site has now increased its total capacity to up to 12 billion tablets and capsules per year, corresponding to an increase of 140%
 
The new Freiburg facility is equipped with the latest Industry 4.0 standards, and is one of the most modern pharmaceutical facilities built for Pfizer in the past three years. These advancements are part of the company’s commitment to the Freiburg site and supporting the development of innovative medicines made in Germany.
 
In addition to the latest smart factory technologies, the new Freiburg facility is now capable of drawing up to 90% of its energy from sustainable sources such as wood pellets, geothermal and solar thermal energy for greener drug production.
