Syngene Expands Operations in India

To build state-of-the-art research laboratories in Genome Valley, Hyderabad.

Syngene International Limited, a global contract research, development, and manufacturing services organization, purchased a 17-acre land parcel in Genome Valley, Hyderabad as an extension to its existing research campus. Construction of the new facilities is expected to begin in 2024. The expanded campus will create up to 1,000 jobs in the next five years.

The company’s existing research facility in Genome Valley was inaugurated in 2020 and accommodates over 900 scientists. The research carried out on the site focuses on discovery chemistry and biology, primarily for the global pharmaceutical industry. The site also includes a PROTAC laboratory that conducts research into disease-causing proteins for diseases such as cancer and a central compound management facility which serves as a central storage facility for all compounds synthesized by Syngene.

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chairperson of Syngene International Ltd., said, “We are delighted to expand Syngene’s operations in Genome Valley with the addition of a large new research and development facility which will create additional jobs and contribute to the growth of the biotech industry. As a part of our commitment to drive innovation and strengthen the biotech ecosystem of the country, we will be investing up to INR 788 crores over the next few years, in Genome Valley in Hyderabad.”
