Training Center can train 20 people at a time, with the goal of reducing training time by 50%

Managing Editor, Contract Pharma
With Thermo Fisher’s investment of $270 million in 2019 to expand its capabilities, capacity and talent globally, the company has installed a training center equipped with virtual reality capabilities to help advance the onboarding and training for personnel who will work on the sterile injectables drug production lines. The goal of the VR training is to bring the user closer to the experience of working on line three in Greenville’s steriles manufacturing suite. Thermo Fisher is investing $55 million in its Greenville, NC manufacturing site to expand its capabilities and capacity. The 1.5 million sq.-ft. pharmaceutical manufacturing facility is the company’s largest development and commercial manufacturing facility, employing more than 1,500 people. This site provides both solid dose form manufacturing/packaging and sterile dose manufacturing, filling and lyophilization of both biopharmaceuticals and small molecules. The company is looking for talented colleagues at all levels to fill more than 100 open positions in Greenville. The Greenville Training Center can train 20 people at a time, with the goal of reducing training time by 50%. There are five virtual reality rooms in the Training Center. The company expects to add more training modules in the future focused on continuous manufacturing, pre-filled syringes and labs. Instead of taking a year to onboard and train individuals to work on a manufacturing line, utilizing virtual reality training allows employees to get up to speed with intimate knowledge of aseptic manufacturing in approximately four months, according to the company.
