Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced the Thermo Scientific NanoDrop Ultra Microvolume UV-Vis Spectrophotometer and Fluorometer designed to streamline modern genomic workflows in research and biomanufacturing. This spectroscopy platform measures the absorbance and fluorescence of DNA and RNA samples on one instrument requiring as little as 1-2 microliters of sample, helping labs extend the power of their equipment, according to the company.

Tailored to support qPCR reactions, NanoDrop Ultra’s software helps users optimize sample preparation based on the selected qPCR kit, helping to obtain consistent and reliable results. The NanoDrop Ultra is powered by Thermo Scientific Acclaro Sample Intelligence technology, which untangles the absorbance spectra of contaminated sample. Its enhanced contamination libraries can differentiate DNA from RNA from plant, bacterial, or mammalian sources, allowing users to acquire reliable data and reduce false readings, according to the company.

The NanoDrop Ultra is designed to save lab space and optimize lab resources and efficiency with integrated fluorescence and absorbance detection on the same pedestal. Its Acclaro Pro Software is designed to refine measurement accuracy, especially for highly concentrated samples, making it an effective tool for batch release quality control in the biomanufacturing sector.

Features include sample efficiency, requiring 1 – 10 microliters of sample for fluorescence assays and no proprietary tubes; and RESTful API integration allows for effective export of data to central repositories.
