ABEC, a global provider of engineering solutions and services for biotech manufacturing, is investing $11 million to expand its disposable container manufacturing capability in single-use for its custom single run (CSR) biomanufacturing solutions. The company’s site in Wilson, NC, includes a 4,600 square meter facility on 13 acres, which will feature an ISO-7 certified clean room and state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. The new site will be ABEC’s third global disposable container manufacturing site and is expected to be fully operational in early Q2 2023.

ABEC offers flexibility in equipment and design of disposable containers to optimize productivity, as well as an approach to open architecture to provide customers with complete control over their product lifecycle and supply chain. This approach, the company said, has led to the widespread adoption of CSR technology by all biopharmaceutical segments, including multinationals, contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs), and small biotechs.

ABEC’s single-use manufacturing capability is dedicated to CSR products, and ABEC currently supplies disposable containers globally from its ISO-7 certified cleanrooms in Fermoy, Ireland, and from its headquarters in Bethlehem, PA. The addition of the Wilson, NC, site will allow ABEC to continue to offer the fast lead times in the disposable container industry. ABEC plans to create 251 jobs in Wilson County.

“We are delighted that the industry recognizes the value of our CSR products and we are excited about our investment in Wilson,” said Scott Pickering, CEO of ABEC. “We look forward to building new and lasting partnerships in this area and supporting our customers around the world from this new location.”
