Welcome to 2020 edition of Contract Pharma’s Top Companies Report. This year’s Top 25 Pharma and Biopharma firms reported pharma revenues of nearly $650 billion based on 2019 sales—a 5% increase compared to the year before.

Takeda became the star performer of the year when it was thrust into the Top 10 for the first time, driven by its $62 billion Shire acquisition in 2018. The mega deal doubled its pharma revenues, which grew to $30.5 billion in 2019 from $16 billion the year prior.

At the same time, this report is the swan song for both Celgene and Allergan. In the second largest pharma acquisition of 2019, Botox-maker Allergan was bought out by AbbVie for $63 billion. Celgene became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bristol-Myers Squibb following the completion of its $74 billion acquisition in November.
